The 22nd Golden Apricot Yerevan International Film Festival (GAIFF) will take place from July 13 to July 20, 2025, in Yerevan, Armenia. Since its founding in 2004, this prestigious festival has grown into a significant cultural event that showcases a diverse range of films from around the world, emphasizing artistic storytelling, cultural dialogue, and human rights themes.
Golden Apricot is named after the apricot, a fruit native to Armenia and a national symbol featured on the Armenian flag. The festival’s core mission is to build bridges between cultures and civilizations by presenting films that explore the human experience across ethnicities, religions, and nations. It offers a platform for Armenian filmmakers and international artists to present new works, fostering creativity and cross-cultural understanding.
The festival features multiple competition categories, including International and Regional competitions, as well as non-competitive screenings, retrospectives, and tributes. Films of various genres—narrative, documentary, animation, and experimental—are screened in their original languages with Armenian and English subtitles.
The 2025 edition will feature a distinguished international jury composed of acclaimed filmmakers, critics, and industry experts who will evaluate the competing films. The festival welcomes submissions from filmmakers worldwide, with a submission deadline of May 1, 2025. Eligible films must have had their first public screening after July 15, 2024.
Golden Apricot is more than a film festival; it is a cultural phenomenon that highlights Armenia’s rich cinematic heritage and its role as a cultural crossroads. The festival honors Armenia’s historic contributions to cinema, dating back to the early 20th century, and celebrates contemporary voices that reflect global issues and artistic innovation.
The festival promotes universal values such as peace, cultural harmony, and mutual understanding, making it a vital event for filmmakers and audiences seeking meaningful cinematic experiences.
Beyond film screenings, Golden Apricot hosts workshops, panel discussions, masterclasses, and networking events, encouraging dialogue between filmmakers, critics, and the public. The closing ceremony, often held at the Yerevan Opera and Ballet Theatre, honors outstanding films and filmmakers with awards.
Tickets and passes will be available through official festival channels closer to the event dates. Visitors attending the festival can also explore Yerevan’s vibrant cultural scene, historic landmarks, and renowned cuisine.
The Golden Apricot International Film Festival 2025 promises a week of inspiring films, cultural exchange, and artistic celebration in the heart of Yerevan. It remains a premier destination for cinema lovers eager to experience diverse storytelling and engage with filmmakers from around the globe.
